“A prudent question is one-half of wisdom”
Francis Bacon
It has been said that the person who never asks a question either knows everything or nothing. In life, we question because we are curious. We want to know. In business coaching we question because we want to create an awareness in another.
Powerful questioning is a method to wake people up. And often, it is the question that you cannot answer that is the most riveting of all. In order to ask the right question at the right time, the business coach needs to be genuinely interested and inquisitive of the business and the business owner with whom they are engaging. Curiosity breeds original thoughts. In that innovation, a realisation is ignited.
“Successful people ask better questions, and as a result, they get better answers”
Tony Robbins
It may not be a fact that good questions are the answer to good business coaching, but it is certainly a fact that good questions get thoughts changing and new ideas explored. Often, it is when we think in a new direction about something different that we see our situation in a completely new light. Business coaching is about making things better. Good questioning is about building the ‘how’ in making things better.
“Sometimes the questions are complicated and the answers are simple.”
