After a few months of Business Coaching, Mark reached a positive turning point in his business. This sense of relief gave him the opportunity to reflect on his learnings and development over this time. He had growth through an interesting journey and discovered that his personality drove him to react and respond in certain ways.
He had become in tune with his thoughts and emotions and started to recognise how these impacted his behaviour, and in turn how he cultivated competency in various areas.
Over his business coaching journey, Mark gained the insight that he was the central hub around which his business and the people within the business functioned. This was certainly pressure for him, yet it also empowered him to recognise that his own development enhanced the business and those within it.
“You don’t have to be a ‘person of influence’ to be influential. In fact, the most influential people in my life are probably not even aware of the things they’ve taught me.”
Scott Adams
Mark considered those around him. He was increasingly aware of how they affected his performance and his mindset. Through business coaching, he minimised his interaction with those who brought negative opinions or moods into his space.
He started to surround himself with like-minded people who believed in the same work ethics and values that he did. This did not mean that he did not engage with diverse perspectives, but rather that he enjoyed positive conflicting views from which he and his business would flourish.
From a business perspective Mark did not see how narrow his focus had been. He was unaware of the impact that the external environment would have on his company, and how the internal environment would need to adapt, strengthen and up-resource as a result of this. Mark learnt how his business operated best, where he was most valuable in the business, and how the others in his work team could make the biggest impact to get results.
He also realised through Business Coaching that he was not alone in his challenges. He reached out to available resources, such as this SA Business Coaches blog from May 2019 on Sharing your Hardships→.
This made him feel like he was part of a community, and not simple struggling on his own.
Mark expected Business Coaching to provide him with tools and a sounding board for his business. He did not realise the insights that this path had given him into himself, the other people in his life, and his business.
